Spartans Protect Home Court, Sweep Mississippi Hurricanes to End 2025

The Community Christian College Texas Spartans are heading into the new year riding a two game win streak after dismantling the visiting Mississippi Hurricanes 101-51. Saturday marked the Spartans’ first home court defense all season, as Head Coach Donald Jefferson’s squad aimed to improve on their 22-point win after visiting the Hurricanes just a week ago.

The Spartans end 2025 in dominating fashion, beating the Community Christian College Mississippi Hurricanes by 51 points to close out the year.

Moss & Alexander Set the Tone

Jaxson Moss once again led the scoring for his squad, this time with help from running mate Jamari Alexander, who added 17 points to the effort. Assistant Coach Brian Hampton Jr. described the 1-2 combo as the catalyst for how the team performs.

“They set the tone, if they don’t come out hot or if they don't come out strong, usually the rest of the team will be lagging behind.”

Fast Start, Bigger Finish

From tip-off, both came out aggressive. Moss tucked away his first three for five shots from the field, getting settled in early. Alexander took a little more time to find his shot—missing his first four attempts— but quickly turned it around, knocking down his next four out of five shots for nine points.

Over the last two games against the Hurricanes, the pair combined for 91 points out of the 212 scored— nearly 43% of the Spartans’ total offensive output across the two matchups.

“We clicked my first day of college down here. So I know we’re gonna get far and lead this program where it needs to go.”

Bench Minutes Matter

Saturday’s early lead opened the door for more players to earn meaningful minutes and build confidence against outside competition. One who took advantage was Darius Davis. After scoring just 5 points in the first half, Davis rattled off 12 points in the second half, knocking down six straight buckets.

Davis tied Alexander for the second-highest scorer of the day with 17 points, making the most of his extended run on the floor. Coach Jefferson emphasized how important those opportunities are as the schedule ramps up.

“We have a lot of games in January. Guys are gonna be tired and banged up so we’ll need those guys off the bench to give us good valuable minutes.”
— Head Coach Donald Jefferson
