Program Sweep No. 4 on the Season as the Spartans Defeat the Southwest Raiders 80–70

The Community Christian College Texas Spartans took on fellow CCC branch Southwest Raiders at home. After completing a comeback win on the road in Houston against the Raiders, the Spartans were looking for a cleaner performance. It took clutch buckets from Ryann Garcia and a strong defensive effort across the board to secure the 10-point win and the fourth program sweep of the season.
In the early going, the Raiders came out fast, taking a five-to-four lead just minutes into the game. However, steals from Keyshawn Garland, Darius Davis, and Da’on Garrett quickly sparked a run that ballooned the Spartan lead to 10 points. The flurry forced the Raiders’ coaching staff to call timeout, as Coach Donald Jefferson’s defensive-minded squad once again leaned on its identity.
“Like we’ve been saying since the beginning of the season, it starts on defense.”
— Coach Donald Jefferson
Defense Sets the Tone
As a team, the Spartans scored nine points off nine offensive rebounds and added 10 points off 16 Raider turnovers in the first half. Even when Southwest mounted scoring runs that trimmed the lead to as little as two points, the Spartans remained composed.
Jaxson Moss may not have had his typical scoring night, finishing with 13 points, but his impact was felt everywhere else. Moss pulled down nine rebounds and recorded five blocks, finishing just one board shy of a double-double.
“He’s in there, blocking shots, getting rebounds, getting deflections, that’s all you can ask for.”
— Coach Donald Jefferson
Garcia Provides the Spark
Although he didn’t lead the team in scoring, Ryann Garcia delivered timely baskets in both halves. In the first half, Garcia caught fire with an eight-point stretch that included back-to-back three-pointers. He finished with 13 points while shooting 50% from beyond the arc.
“I’m a shooter, so it’s going to go in. I always think it’s going to go in.”
— Ryann Garcia
Alexander Leads Efficiently
Jamari Alexander led all scorers with 22 points while adding four assists and two steals in an efficient performance. Coach Jefferson has described Alexander’s growth into a “true point guard,” and against the Raiders, he embraced that role — taking what the defense gave him, including three made shots from downtown.
Despite earning Player of the Game honors, Alexander credited his teammates for the performance and the victory.
“It’s not really about the scoring, it’s about my teammates trusting in me.”
— Jamari Alexander
Room to Improve
Four Spartans — Moss, Garcia, Davis, and Alexander — finished in double figures, combining for 61 of the team’s 80 points. Still, the Raiders’ zone defense created challenges. In the second half, Southwest forced 10 turnovers and went on a 10–1 run to tie the game.
The Spartans were also out-rebounded 45–38, one of their largest deficits on the glass this season. Coach Jefferson acknowledged there is still work to be done as the team prepares for a tough closing stretch.
“We were doing a lot of unnecessary dribbling and being hard headed. We flowed better in the second half but we still got work to do.”
— Coach Donald Jefferson
Up Next
The Spartans will enjoy the victory briefly before turning their attention to Nelson University in Waxahachie on Monday night. With just a handful of games remaining in year one, the team continues to push toward a strong finish as the season nears its conclusion.
