Spartans Dominate on the Road in Bounce Back Win 111-89, 12 Hours from Home Soil
Biloxi, Mississippi
The Community Christian College Texas Spartans departed 3:30 Saturday morning for their
longest trip of the season so far. Even though the Spartans spent 11 and a half of the 12 hours
on a bus, Head Coach Donald Jefferson’s squad walked into enemy territory and came out with
a 111-89 win.
Game Highlights
- Jackson Moss led all scorers with 35 points.
- Moss went from 1-for-5 early to hitting 9 of his next 10 shots.
- Moss had 27 points in the first half, powering a 15-point lead at the break.
- Josiah Escoffery added 15 points off the bench and shot 50% from the field.
“When I went one for five, I realized I need to get more into the game… I need to get
more touches around the paint and draw fouls so I can get the touch on my shot.”
— Jackson Moss
“We lucked up and got him by the grace of God.”
— Head Coach Donald Jefferson
Bench Spark
The Spartans got a major boost off the bench with Josiah Escoffery, who finished with
15 points, including back-to-back three-balls to start off. Coach Jefferson credited Escoffery’s
preparation throughout the week for his impact against the Hurricanes.
“All week he was on time, getting up shots, working hard in practice, and what you put into
practice is what you get out of the game.”
— Head Coach Donald Jefferson
Defense Sets the Tone
The Spartans’ complementary style starts on the defensive end, with many opponents held
to under 90 points. Assistant Coach Brian Hampton Jr. made it clear that defense is non-negotiable.
“If you don’t play defense, you’re not playing on my team, simple.”
— Assistant Coach Brian Hampton Jr.
Built for the Road
Some of the Spartans’ best performances have come away from home. Coach Jefferson and
Moss both spoke about the team’s competitive edge on the road.
“We’re very competitive and we’re gonna let you know, we’re coming in here to take over.”
— Head Coach Donald Jefferson
“I come from a small city so whenever I get a chance to get around big things and see different things,
it motivates me.”
— Jackson Moss
Leadership Perspective
Athletic Director Darnell Newman traveled with the team and expressed confidence in the
program’s direction under Coach Jefferson.
“As an AD (Athletic Director) it’s really good to see… We expected big things from this team and they have a lot of talent over here.”
— Athletic Director Darnell Newman
