Bio
Darnell Newman currently serves as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for Community Christian College Texas, where he launched the inaugural Spartan Athletics program in 2025 beginning with the football program. Bringing years of experience in both sports and business leadership, Darnell played a pivotal role in establishing the football program and developing the foundational plans for the expansion of Spartan Athletics.
Driven by a clear vision for the future, Darnell aims to elevate Spartan Athletics into a recognized and respected name within the next five years with a strong focus on character development, competitive standards, and athlete-centered growth. His long-term plan includes expanding the department to offer Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Track and Field, Baseball, Volleyball, and Cheer with all programs targeted for launch by 2028.
With seven years of coaching experience, Darnell’s leadership and defensive expertise led him to serve as the Interim Defensive Coordinator for the CCC Southwest Raiders before transitioning into a Head Coaching role at Community Christian College Texas. In his first season leading the Spartans, the program successfully sent five student-athletes to NCAA Division II and NAIA institutions. This early progress reflects the development-focused and opportunity-driven culture he is establishing for Spartan student-athletes.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Darnell’s leadership is grounded in the discipline, accountability, and values forged during his service as an Infantryman from 2012 to 2017. His coaching philosophy emphasizes player development, defensive discipline, and the belief that his program is where talent meets coaching. He prioritizes building a positive and structured environment where young men can grow academically, athletically, and personally.
Beyond athletics, Darnell is an accomplished entrepreneur with multiple Business of the Year awards. His ability to build strong systems, efficient structures, and sustainable growth models contributed to his successful transition into full-time athletics. The strategic mindset that guided his companies to success is now instrumental in creating competitive, organized, and high-standard athletic programs at Community Christian College Texas.
Darnell has deep ties to the Central Texas community. He previously served as the Business Development Director for the Innovation Black Chamber of Commerce and has owned businesses in both Killeen and Copperas Cove, contributing to local economic development and community engagement.
He holds an Associate of Science in Marketing and a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Southern New Hampshire University and is an ISSA Certified Personal Trainer. Darnell has been married to his wife Ashley since 2017 and they are the proud parents of three children: Jamarcus age 18, Mya age 7, and Ari age 2.
